Abstract

This article demonstrates that in the case of Chile and Mexico, during the last decades, the economies of both countries have benn transformed, their openness with production orientation toward external markets has been at the cost of marginalization and internal market determination. Howevet the sectorial consequences are different, because Mexico bases its new model in the industrial sector and Chile in the primary sector, which is the traditional base of Chilean exports, but cercain aspects of this sector have been significantly altered.
