Abstract
An analysis of the role adopted by shopping centers in the spatial organization of urban society is carried out in this paper. Spaces, such as shopping centers make their appearance in the face of the end of the century social dynamics, in which consumption has become the core element of life. It is in these shopping centers where this core element regulates the spatial-society relationship. Stemming from this situation, an analysis has been made of the functions these centers have acquired in daily life, their quality as the core or focal point is presented, and their role as consumption spaces, places for social interaction, recreation and tourism is described.
