Abstract

In the late XIX century, the Medical Gazette of Mexico publishes a study on hermaphrodites. The case study includes two images: the face of Guadalupe Vargas appears in one, a woman who was lead to the police for having relations with another woman, and the other one, presents her genitals. The aim is to look at the text from the images and, through them, try to reconstruct an evident but invisible frame of the medical discourse.
