Abstract

The rural-urban effect in present day Peru is reviewed in this essay. At the same time, the causes are explained in the context of social processes. In orderto accomplish this, the author has used two texts: Conquistadores de un nuevo mundo(Conquerors of a new world) and EI otrosendero (The other path), with which he traces the reasons why social processes emphasize the individual more than the community. Of particular interest is the migratory process that during the forties comes from the Andes to settle at the outskirts of the city, in the so-called 'Pueblos J6venes' (Young Towns).
