This research is supported on the analysis of the experiences of migrating women who, in this case, live in the Maciel island, a poor neighborhood located in the metropolitan outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The author also uses the above mentioned research to delve in depth into the family microcosmos, and thus present the different human tendencies which, in turn, do not fully justify the handy thesis of migration for "survival",
