Abstract

The relationship between economic growth and income distribution inequality is examined according to the model proposed by Kuznets in 1954 and modified by Lydalltwenty years later. The ideas developed by these economists are analyzed with reference to contempo¬rary ideas developed by economists based at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the World Bank; the article includes a review of the assumptions of this generalized model. In the final part and according to the previous discussion, it examines the evolution of the relationship between growth and inequality in the Mexican case during the last decades.
