Abstract

During the decade of 1910 to 1920, Guatemala sought to recover Chiapas. Due to this fact, president Manuel Estrada Cabrera approached to Madero, Victoriano Huerta and Venustiano Carranza and used the Peruan poet Santos Chocano like an emissary to handle the matter in Mexico, without positive results. Being acquainted that his territorial aspirations will not have satisfactory results, Estrada Cabrera gave political asylum to many Mexicans that tried to overthrow Mexican president. At the same time, Carranza gave refuge to an important group of dissidents of Guatemala and supported them to bring down Estrada Cabrera.
