Abstract

Communities and households represent the social foundation of sustainable development. In Mexico, the marginalization and isolation of communities, the high levels of economic dependence, and the low levels of income that characterize most households, in urban and rural areas alike, create conditions that prevent the social equality implicit in the idea of sustainability from being attained. The concept of inclination offers a promising arena for empirical analyses aimed at detecting situations in which inequalities emerge and deepen.
