Repensando el nacionalismo en Vasconcelos
Keywords:
José Vasconcelos, hispanism, nacionalism, Mexican Revolution, cultural history in MexicoAbstract
The article questions the Vasconcelos’s critics of Mexican nationalism. Vasconcelos's life and work has been mostly explained by his relationship with the Revolution as an intellectual leader, as a participant, or as an expression or reaction. However, the paper’s argument is that the right answer is not in the Revolution, but in the experience of Vasconcelos against the United States and in his theory of conflict between Saxons and Latins. The argument is illustrated with a brief discussion of the interpretation of the elements of Vasconcelos nationalism.
