Abstract

This article analyzes various facets of the journalistic career of Jacobo Zabludovsky, principal protagonist in the area of news production in Televisa (Mexico's media consortium). From his beginnings as a columnist to the founding of the news system EGO, more than four decades have passed during which, and under specific circumstances, this journalist has managed to determine the direction of the professionalization of the news field in Mexican television. In this investigation certain lines of analysis are followed in order to discover the origen of his domination within the field of journalism and examples are offered which characterize his style. Attention is draw to various periods of the news programs produced by what was then known as 'Telesistema Mexicano', up to these programs that Zabludovsky established the rules regarding news values and circumscribed the spectrum of productive news routines, based on negotiations with high level figures in the political and economic spheres.
