Democratization in the autonomous public universities in Mexico

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the participation of students, teachers and workers in the government of the Autonomous Public Universities (UPA) in Mexico. For this, democratic, electoral, constitutional, substantive and deliberative legality were analy­zed. Intending to identify the model of democratic participation that the UPA have for the appointment of the rector, the subjects that intervene, the way in which they moderate, and the normative instruments that they have. The results are disaggregated into dichotomous variables, applying descriptive statistics to interpret the results. In conclusion, the democra­tic systems within the UPA were identified and, as limitations, it should be considered that the results are subject to the amount of data analyzed.
