Abstract

The popular urban movement has been a constant source of argument to the schemes of analysis used for social science knowledge as well as for political action. The article describes the various experiences observed in some Latin American countries in the last decades, establishing a typology of movements associated to a distinct time periods. It includes the necessity of developing concepts and theories that show the complexity of the phenomenon.
