40 years after the military coup of 1973, Chilean society seems to have developed strategies to cope with the grief, the burden and the consequences that the imposition of a military dictatorship and the introduction of “neoliberal revolution” had for its transformation. We review and put into question some facts that in the last four years have reopened the debate on the official memory of the country and the stubborn political, institutional and economic legacy of the military dictatorship for the production of political speeches concerning the history and society.
